LDL or Low Density Lipoproteins is considered bad cholesterol, this is the cholesterol that can clog up your arteries and increase your risk for high blood pressure, stroke, heart disease and a heart attack. HDL stands for High Density Lipoproteins. This is good cholesterol. HDL is produced in the liver as well as found in healthy foods such as olive oil, fish oil and nuts. Your body, heart and circulatory system rely on HDL to help clear away the junk in your arteries to allow fresh nutrients, vitamins and minerals to body.
Most health professionals take into consideration two numbers when figuring out your cholesterol level, your HDL and LDL. While a lower LDL cholesterol level is good, it is important to have an adequate HDL level as well. So if you want to be healthy, make sure you have enough HDL.
